A/Ibom State Commissioner of police visit Etim Ekpo to Strengthen security challenge




The Akwa Ibom state Commissioner of Police, CP Zaki Ahmed eulogised Rt. Hon. Udeme Eduo when he paid a visit to the Chairman in his office in Etim Ekpo Local Government headquarters yesterday, 12th September, 2019. It was a great joy by the people of Etim Ekpo when the commissioner of police arrived.

The visit which was facilitated by the Local Government Chairman, Rt.Hon. Udeme Eduo is to strengthen security in the area. The meeting afforded the stakeholders the opportunity to interact with the CP on the security situation in the LGA and the way forward.

Setting the tune opened for the meeting, CP Zaki who is the 27th Commissioner of police in the state also commended the Traditional rulers and asserted that prior to the crisis that was in the area, the Council boss has been able to maintain peace in the environment, while thanking the Honourable Chairman for hosting him in his office, he added that “we all know, security is everyone’s business and is next to life, it is very important and I appreciate you for prioritising security and being of assistant to us” he vehemently pleaded for utmost synergy between Government, traditional rulers, Nigerian Police Force and other sisters security agencies.

He added that the reason for his visit is to ascertain and beef up the level of security in the area for the safety of the citizens having conversant with the security challenges faced previously. “I am very impressed by what I have seen today in this LG under the leadership of, Rt. Hon. Udeme Eduo, it’s quite commendable and I want this feat to continue” He said.

The Police Boss while addressing the Youth (mostly the repentant youth) advised them all that Government is a process and all will benefit, he stressed the pertinence of abstaining from crime and social vices because crime will definitely shorten their lifespan adding that crime can never allow any youth to become meaningful in any society. He further thanked the youths for maintaining peace saying, “Etim Ekpo and Ukanafun are among the Local Government areas i was so much interested to visit and i am grateful that the area has regain peace i have also heard of your good work with your Area Commander and DPO, please keep up with your good works”.

The Executive Chairman of Etim Ekpo, Rt.Hon. Udeme Eduo thanked the CP for finding time to visit Etim Ekpo LGA, he stressed that his visit is very imperative and timely while having no doubt that the gesture will go a long way in ensuring that any security lapses in the area will be properly checked. He also ceased the opportunity to thank the State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel for always being responsive and receptive to the safety of Etim Ekpo in particular and the State at large. In the same vein, he also appreciated the IG of Police for his concern for the security of Etim Ekpo and it’s environs by approving the Area Command Headquarters to be sited in Etim Ekpo.

The Executive Chairman pointed out that in his quest to tackle and cut down youths restiveness and insecurity in the locality, he has embarked on skill acquisition programme for the youths to make them useful to the society. Hear him; “The Local Government Council of Etim Ekpo, in an effort to reduce crime among the youths had, in partnership with the National Directorate of Employment(NDE), selected 200 youths from the villages affected by the crisis caused by the insurgents and trained them in various skills to make them self reliant and contribute meaningfully to the society”

Rt. Hon Eduo, also acknowledged the various contributions by some prominent sons of Etim Ekpo for the security, peace and development of the area among them are, Barr Emmanuel Enoidem (NLA, PDP), HRM, Obong Prof. Amanam Udo(Paramount Ruler, Etim Ekpo LGA),DIG Udom Ekpoudom(Rtd.), Rt. Hon. Mfon Idung (Member AKHA), Rt Hon Uduot Jack (Board member AKROIMA) Prof. Moses Akpanudo, among others.

The Council Boss called for the additional deployment of security in the Area and a stronger working relationship between the Federal Govt, the State Govt, and the Local Government Council to enable them tackle insecurity head on and in for development to strive, and made the under listed recommendations :-

  1. That the police station at Iwukem – a boundary community with Abia State, be ungraded to a Division.
  2. That more police posts be established in strategic locations in the LGA, to further checked the activities of lawless elements in the area.
  3. That more police men be posted to Etim Ekpo Division/stations .
  4. That police/public relationship network be strengthened to help in crime detection, reporting and prevention.
  5. That by way of cushioning the effects of the aftermath of the crisis, Govt should vigorously pursue the rehabilitation and resettlement of the victims and the villages that were ransacked and made uninhabitable.
  6. That Govt should embark on training of the repentant cultists of the LGA in various trades /skills as earlier planned by the government, etc.

Reacting to the above recommendations, the Commissioner of Police said with their resolved undeterred determination to ensure a crime free society, that the recommendations shall be dully taken into consideration and stressed that security is everybody’s business and called on all hands to be on desk to enable them tackle any form of criminality head on, he gave an emergency number to be dialled, in case of any security breach for quick response.

In attendance were the Executive Chairman, Etim Ekpo LGA, Rt. Hon. Udeme Eduo, the paramount Ruler of Etim Ekpo LGA, HRM, Obong Prof. Amanam Udo, all the members of the executive arm, all councillors led by the leader, supervisors, directors of the LG and other stakeholders. In the CP’s side were the Cp himself, Assistant CP in charge of operations, Area commander of Abak-Five, the head DSS, the DPO, Etim Ekpo and other top security echelons.
